ABSTRACT
Theology has nothing to do with 'religious management' studies. Theology is a passion that one pursues with all one's heart, all one's soul and all one's strength. Theology springs from unbounded joy in the presence of God's Spirit, the Spirit of the resurrection, so that one affirms this life with the whole, undivided love of God and despite life's devastations one still loves, being 'there' as present, wholly present. That capacity is God's own delight in life. Every Christian has a fundamental right to doubt, every Christian and every pastor or theologian too. People are leaving the mainline church in droves, no longer wanting a pastor to 'look over' them, or wanting to be affiliated with the church simply because they 'live' nearby it. The end looks, for Germany (and elsewhere), to be a 'people's church' model without people.
