ABSTRACT

Studying organizational behavior has always been challenging, but the difficulties are compounding in today’s environment of rapid change. Whereas twenty years ago, companies faced less competition, a slower moving business environment, and more stability, today’s global economy is forcing companies to make frequent, dramatic improvements to stay competitive. Moreover, the technological leaps of the digital age have provided employees with new tools for working together faster to meet these challenges. To understand better how organizations adapt to the multiple demands of an increasingly turbulent world, we need to study organizations as they have reshaped structurally and reorganized collective efforts to meet new challenges. The result has often been a restructuring to team-centered organizations.
