ABSTRACT
Michelle’s mother had been dead only a matter of weeks before Michelle attempted to contact her. The medium Michelle consulted to do this told her that not enough time had passed, that her mother would not yet be ready to re-establish a link with this world. But Michelle’s urge to encounter her mother was so strong that she decided to take on the task herself, employing the meditation techniques she had learnt at various groups. Very soon, after practising sitting quietly and picturing her mother’s image night after night, Michelle heard her mother’s voice telling her, ‘I’m only in the next room’. A few nights later, Michelle’s mother appeared and took her to the place where she now lived – they walked over fields with mountains in the distance, reminding Michelle of Scotland, of which her mother had been very fond. They met up like this time after time, until one night Michelle’s mother took her to a place with buildings and people, and pointed to a hospital where she worked. She was wearing a uniform and looked very happy. Michelle realised that her mother’s dearest, but unfulfilled, wish in this world had come true in the next – she had become a nurse.
