From Periphery to Mainstream: Affirmative Action in Britain

Throughout much of their history, the British have declared their belief in the values of democracy, fair play and social responsibility. These they said were an integral part of their identity: ‘British’ values, which they took with them to the four corners of their Empire, using them to various ends, not least to underpin and legitimise Britain’s imperialism.
