ABSTRACT
The involvement of SMEs (subject matter experts) in rail research has increased in parallel with the interest and associated research programmes in Rail Human Factors (Rail HF) over the last decade. The nature of HF investigations is such that humans form the focus of our enquiry. This coupled with the complex nature of a domain with a long history that is also subject to regular changes creates an environment where the role of SMEs is crucial.
