ABSTRACT

Planning is an activity that takes place in every organization. Planning is done by human planners. Our research question concerns knowing how planners reason and what plans (solutions) they prefer. Although software vendors are claiming that planning can and should be done by software, practice shows that in planning and scheduling situations human planners and not software are leading. Because software support for planning is increasing, it is important to have a better empirical look at what human planners in the real world do. We will discuss some general characteristics of planning in section 2. In this section we will also explain what planning in the NS means.
