Alcohol and Drugs as Risk Factors in Railway Traffic

The abuse of alcohol, drugs and narcotics is certainly a serious threat to safety in the railway industry as to traffic in general. This is an area where medicine has a lot to contribute, both as provider of knowledge, but also because routine medical examinations of all employees involved with safety critical functions are considered as a major safety barrier.
