The architect Samuel Roder (1896-1985) was invited to design the new temple. Born to an auent Jewish family in Kiev, Roder graduated from the École des BeauxArts of the Imperial Academy in his native city in 1913. He arrived in Brazil at the beginning of 1917 after a short period in Europe and New York. In Brazil, Roder began working at the City of São Paulo Improvements and Freehold Land Company Limited, founded in 1911, which contracted Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin as its urban planners. Roder worked with Parker while the English architect was in São Paulo between 1917 and 1918, but left the City Company to begin a solo career as an architect and builder, using a repertoire of forms that ranged from the English inuences, to Art Deco and to the Modern style.
