ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 described some possible organization patterns for projects. Generally speaking, a project manager’s authority and freedom to act decisively is likely to be highest in a team, rather than in a matrix organization. The strongest kind of team is a project task force, which is the organization indicated when it is necessary to drive a project to a successful finish in the face of difficulties. In this chapter two specific applications for a task force approach will be described. The first of these is for a project that is heading for disaster and needs a rescue effort to save it. This second case is a very disruptive management change project.
