ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses possible new channels of synthesis of regional science methods. The New Channel I depicts how Industrial Complex analysis can be connected to a fused input-output/econometric framework. The new channel II introduces interregional SAM and Applied General Interregional Equilibrium (AGIE) into regional analytic framework. Unlike Channel I this channel requires significant new effort at model development — in particular models using both of these techniques. The chapter considers urban complex analysis as an integral part of the new Channel III. Microsimulation can add to the analytical strength of Channel III through capturing the effects of the aging and other processes upon macromagnitudes by type and aggregate — labor force, its aggregate and by type; investment, its aggregate and by type; and other interconnected macromagnitudes such as GRP and GNP. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
