ABSTRACT
There is a debate over whether the Critical Philosophy’s account of religion is or is not compatible with Christianity. This debate often focuses on the question of whether Kant’s religious outlook is a deistic or a Christian one. The debate encompasses a number of more detailed questions: Does Kant allow for the real possibility of revelation? Does he allow of divine action in the world, specifically for miracles? Does Kant reduce true religion to natural religion? Does he reduce religion to morality? Does he allow any real role for a redeemer and saviour in history, specifically in the person of Jesus Christ? Does he allow rational assent to key Christian doctrines?
