ABSTRACT

The main themes of this collection of essays are James’s ideas and policies in presentation and implementation. Most of our contributions engage to varying degrees with one or both of the intertwined concerns of kingly authority and religious policy. The consideration of texts written or authorized by James, or (in one case1) opposing his policies looms large in a majority of these essays. Their sequence is broadly chronological.
