Introduction to Second Edition: Committed Scholarship JEAN HILLIER AND EMMA ROOKSBY Since the original conference, Habitus 2000, from which the chapters in the first edition of this volume were drawn, and since its publication in 2002, we have mourned the untimely deaths of Pierre Bourdieu and Paul Hirst. We dedicate this second edition to the memory of these two fine scholars and commence this Introduction with a tribute to their work.
