ABSTRACT

This chapter presents three key elements which are pivotal in understanding the impact of globalisation on education with particular reference to socio-cultural values held by groups large and small. The three key elements are globalisation itself, cultural diversity and teacher education. The chapter attempts to intertwine these three elements which are: that by developing a teacher education and training that is sensitive to cultural diversity in the context of global impact and change; education provision could become more relevant, adaptive, and creative and forward looking as we enter a new millennium. It focuses on the discussion relating to teacher education linked to implementing a training curriculum. The chapter discusses how globalisation relates to cultural development and a notion of a global culture. It explains the relationship between the notion of global culture, cultural diversity and educational provision. The chapter explores at what extent teacher education can accommodate cultural diversity arising from the impact of globalisation.
