ABSTRACT

Beginning in the 1960s, French architects looked to the United States to learn about professional architectural practices, new systems of industrialization and prefabrication – including the use of curtain walls and steel construction. The editors of L’Architecture d’aujourd’hui assiduously documented the American architectural scene, devoting several issues of the journal to it between 1945 and 1959. The general thrust of these special editions was to accentuate the modernity, functionalism and efficiency of American architecture.
