ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I want to contribute to our understanding of why arguments for global justice, such as those formulated by Peter Singer and Thomas Pogge, seem to be failing in attracting sufficient motivational support. I will briefly introduce their arguments and point at their possible flaws. In doing so, I rely heavily on insights provided by John Rawls. I will conclude that Rawls’s “duty to assist” is not a bad point of departure when thinking about global justice and trying to change the present situation of world poverty.
