ABSTRACT

Begüm Özkaynak Introduction The political forces and structures shaping environmental politics in Turkey themselves are open to influence by local actors (e.g. local government, private sector, social groups). Therefore, it is important to understand the dynamics-in terms of conflicts, bargains, alliances, and consensuses-at the local level as well. Without a doubt, such an analysis is also relevant for discussing and coordinating urban policies, which are becoming increasingly complex and challenging in the twenty-first century, especially in a country undergoing a rapid process of development such as Turkey.
