ABSTRACT

Enterprising women, as described in the book, live in a vast variety of transition environments. Some women are doing business in countries making rapid progress, with market reforms (East Germany, Slovenia and Lithuania), others are operating in countries within an intermediate stage of transition, (Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan); and the least fortunate are working in countries making slow progress (Ukraine and Moldova) (United Nations, 2003). Historical, cultural and religious diversity is also a feature of the group of countries included in the book.
