ABSTRACT

As William Gibson, the author of Neuromancer, is oĞen quoted as saying that, the future is already here, just unevenly distributed. In other words, if we are trying to see how the world of digital identity and digital identity management (which we’ll just call IDM from now on!) is likely to evolve over any timescale meaningful to business and government (perhaps five to ten years), we do not need to imagine new technologies. All of the information and communications technologies that will have an impact over this timescale already exist. What we need to do is to aĴempt a realistic forecast of how they might evolve and be deployed over that timescale.
