ABSTRACT

Regional development accelerates development of trade activities and the increasing need for logistics and transportation services reflects the importance of port development effects. The process of concentration in shipping – larger ships, more transshipment, and mergers, and alliances – has profound effects on port development. Guneydogu Anadolu Projesi is considered as a regional development project and the organisation of the Port of Mersin as a container feeder port as the related port development project. Both a port and regional development have socio-economic development effects on the regional community and the nation at large through its various functions. The effective management of agricultural activities is one of the critical components of regional development and rural change. The principle components of an agricultural project are the natural resources base, the economic and social structure, agricultural inputs, and the institutions that will hold it together.
