ABSTRACT

As is known to all, Chinese youth and children constitute a large population. According to the 2002 statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of youth and children under 19 exceeds 360 million, accounting for 29.33% of China’s total population. Studies by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) show that the number of Chinese Internet users is increasing year by year, among whom the proportion of youth and children users is also growing. Results of all previous statistical reports from CNNIC on the number of internet users and the proportion of youth and children are listed in Table 11.1. By July 2004, youth and children users under 18 made up 17.3% of the entire population of internet users in China.
