Landscape and garden history is a fascinating and sometimes infuriating subject area that can draw the unwary researcher in, and then promptly shunt him or her wildly o the topic of original research into all sorts of diversions. Interpretation of landscape and garden styles by critics tends to change with time and fashion inuenced as it is by the views of the critics themselves, or their patrons.
