ABSTRACT

It is essential that the contractors that are put on the tender list should not only be approved as being of general competence but be able to undertake the specic nature of the work proposed in terms of their experience. Otherwise the designer may have to spend a large amount of time on site checking, instructing and inspecting, and sometimes actually showing the contractor how the work should be carried out. is will be expensive for the designer and for the client. Some rms, though competent, can only handle soft works of small contracts. e client may well turn to the designer and ask why an incompetent contractor was put on the tender list, which could both be embarrassing and lead to a breakdown in relations between the client and the designer, especially if the client is receiving large site-attendance fee invoices.
