ABSTRACT

Trimen was born on 29 October 1840 in Paddington, the third son of Richard and Marianne Esther Trimen. After leaving King’s College School he went on voyage to the Cape where it was thought the climate would suit his poor health. In 1860 he went back permanently to South Africa where he began work with the Cape Civil Service. From 1873 to 1895 he served as Curator of the South African Museum in Cape Town.
