ABSTRACT

Poulton was born on 27 July 1856. After school in Reading he studied natural science at Jesus College, Oxford, although his research was done in the field of geology. In 1893 Poulton succeeded J. O. Westwood as Hope Professor at Oxford. He presided three times over the Entomological Society including its centenary meeting in 1933 when it became a Royal Society. In recognition of his great contribution both to entomology and the Society, he became in 1933 one of the only 3 Honorary Life Presidents of the Society. Poulton died on 20 November 1939.
