ABSTRACT

According to the World Health Organization, more than 1/7th of the elderly people in the world die of drug misuse. Some old people, especially the people who are over 75 years old, find it harder to pay attention to anything. They easily forget or confuse what the doctor has told them. For example, they may confuse whether their medicine should be taken after meals or before meals. They may forget how much medicine they need to take every time. Sometimes they do not think that they have taken medicine, even when they have done, which may lead to drug misuse. Drug misuse may cut down the effectiveness of the treatment, increase the occurrence of complications and even be life-threatening. There are some devices that can remind people to take medication regularly in China. But there is not the kind of device that can report the drug name, the time of taking the medicine and the drug residual number. Also there is not a device that can test whether the number of drugs taken by the user every time is accurate or not. Aiming to solve these problems, we design a medication regularly reminding device, which can remind the user to take medicine according to the advice of their doctor. The medication regularly reminding device can minimise the bad consequences caused by drug misuse.
