ABSTRACT

Research abroad on optical fibre magnetic field sensors was conducted in the 1960s-1970s, and optical fibre magnetic field sensors based on the Faraday magneto-optical effect were realised. In 1980, a magnetic field sensor based on fibre optic magnetostrictive material was first proposed (Yariv et al. 1980). Sensitivity of 1.6 × 10−12 Gs could be achieved. Subsequently, the United States, Japan, and some other countries have gained many good research results in the fibre optic magnetic field sensor development process. Domestic research in the optical fibre sensing technology field are relatively late, still limited to experimental studies, and practical use is very difficult.
