Above all, I believe that, despite being largely considered a conservative regarding his political vision and certain English customs-in his defence of monarchy and patriarchy, for example-Bacon kept at least some degree of suspicion that it would be impossible, with the advancement of knowledge, to keep the English political and social institutions unchanged.
