ABSTRACT

Issues in teaching literature in English in Philippine secondary schools are discussed in light of English being taught as a second language in the country, as well as it being used as medium of instruction. To help contextualize these issues, a short history of English literature instruction in the Philippines is provided and the current K to 12 curriculum is compared to its predecessors. Issues related to English, literature, and education, together with the possible solutions to the problems identified, are discussed at length.
