ABSTRACT

In many European countries sports organised in state-supported, non-profit sport clubs are an important part of society. In several countries, with a strong sport club history, the perspective of health outcomes of sport club activity receives substantial attention. The state support is being questioned and evaluated, among others, with health being a strong yardstick. With the point of departure in a Danish context and the case of football fitness, this chapter explores how state-supported voluntary organised sport clubs are linked to and affected by health. The case brings important aspects which relate to the contemporary situation of many other countries.
