ABSTRACT

Higher education institutions – as creators of new knowledge; repositories of historical insights and artifacts; educators of the next generation of citizens, artists, politicians, scientists, entrepreneurs, bureaucrats, and more – stand on the front lines of many of the key issues of our time. Internationalization of higher education offers an important avenue for societies around the world to enhance the ability of their higher education institutions and systems to enable these same societies to respond to the challenges and opportunities of our time. There has been a veritable explosion in attention paid to the internationalization of higher education in recent years, particularly in terms of policy and practice. Dina Uzhegova's consideration of the particular challenges facing higher education institutions in Siberia offers a stark reinforcement of the classic real estate mantra: location, location, location. This chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
