ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some closing comments on the major themes discussed the previous chapters of this book. The cases and accounts presented in the chapters in the book demonstrate how complex and interconnected the relationships between media and politics have become, and support the claim that there is much to be gained conceptually and theoretically by thinking of "media as politics". Despite this complexity, it is the goal of the book in these closing comments to raise some questions of significance for media research in South Asia, but also for research and theory more broadly in the area of mediated politics or media as politics. The book shows how media as politics processes are linked to other actors or institutions. State power and state decisions may be seen as the focus of action in mediated politics as with political parties and political movements.
