ABSTRACT

As the years went on, in New York, Yun became well known to author as a major figure at Columbia University and also as someone who was very instrumental in bringing over some really quite extraordinary talent from Mainland China. The author thinks their personal relationship began sometime in the late 80s. He remembers conducting a number of pieces; Yu Ko was one of them, and Beijing in the Mist, and, more recently, Echoes from the Gorge, which is a really fantastic piece for percussion quartet that his had heard in New York. Yu Ko also is well known to all of us performers as the curator of Varese’s music, someone who has edited many, many scores. He was involved in those wonderful recordings with the Concertgebouw, the complete Varese.
