ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the existing studies to assess the neuroscience tools in the field of social science. It argues that Active Two, Hydrocel Geodesic Sensor Net, and EPOC are the most popular Electroencephalography (EEG) tools in this field. The chapter describes these EEG tools by investigating several factors. It provides recommendations on investment in EEG, suggesting that EPOC is the most appropriate for beginners, especially when conducting non-complicated research, such as gaming, while ActiveTwo is suitable for researchers with medium to high levels of experience. The chapter highlights non-invasive tools because they are used mainly in social science, while invasive tools are used in the medical field. It discusses the trends of Electroencephalography in social science end explores recommendation on the investment in Electroencephalography and directions for future research. Investment in EEG needs to be traded-off against the expected benefits. The data quality of EEG recording is reflected by the signal-to-noise ratio and impedance electrodes.
