ABSTRACT

Based on our experiences of conducting research at Kongsvinger prison, in Norway, we will discuss one of the methodological challenges that prison researchers face in an era of mass mobility connected to the lack of a shared language between researchers and participants and the barriers this may create. Such challenges, we suggest, should not necessarily be a problematic feature of the research process, but with reflexive examination, they can also become important sources of data collection and analysis in their own right.
