Passing over the writer’s hints that he discerned prolixity, irrelevance, and even confusion in Fulcher’s work, there is some indication that he was aware of other sources, and that he undertook additional research. The question addressed below is whether this is sufficient to explain some passages which are not more concise than Fulcher, but more detailed.
