ABSTRACT
Despite the fact that Polish contacts with Cyprus were never as extensive or as intensive as with the remaining parts of the Greek world in the later Middle Ages, the very position of the island on a pilgrimage route made it a customary stop for Poles travelling to the Holy Land. Moreover, Poland’s important role on the later medieval European stage contributed to the fact that the kings of Cyprus showed interest at least twice in bringing Mediterranean affairs to the attention of the rulers of Poland.1
