ABSTRACT

In August 2003 clearance work and a surface survey were earned out at the site of the Templar castle Toron des Chevaliers (Latrun), near the Tel-Aviv–Jerusalem highway. The Israel Antiquities Authority with the support of the Armoured Corps Association organized the project, which was directed by Rafael Lewis, advised by Adrian Boas. It took place over a period of three weeks, employing about 65 workers. Clearance of the accumulated surface debris and vegetation exposed parts of the castle which had long been hidden from view and certain elements which were not previously recorded.
