ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the programme of learning support interventions and presents the holistic approach taken in its design. It provides an overview of the interventions and their aims as a whole, before turning attention more specifically to the way in which the interventions deal with interculturality. The pedagogical approach to the interventions is set out and the theoretical framework adopted in relation to interculturality is discussed. The chapter presents case study of student engagement with the interventions with suggestions made relating to study abroad pedagogical practice and research more broadly. It also presents an interventionist approach that supports and promotes all learning abroad and at the same time raises awareness of and values interculturality. Learning abroad is integrated into the modern languages curriculum before and after the sojourn to help students mindfully make sense of their intercultural experiences abroad and for their further development as modern linguists.
