ABSTRACT
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP's) present attempt to weave an alliance with the dominant 'other backward castes' (OBCs) partially succeeded in making inroads into the Dravidian heartland and is an emerging political trend with no ideological underpinning. It is important to note that the BJP made a dent in Tamil Nadu without having an alliance with either Dravidian party. Because the Dravidian parties have divided the dominant OBCs, its ratio of support has varied from time to time based on the issues. The dissatisfaction level against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has not come down even after three years because of its status quo organizational and leadership crisis in the party. Satisfaction with the state government was substantially higher at 72 per cent than the national average of 57 per cent. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa also had a favourable rating, as almost 70 per cent of voters were satisfied with her performance.
