ABSTRACT

Slavery is unknown. When a debt is incurred the cattle are usually mortgaged to the creditor, but if the debtor be poor he may voluntarily serve until the debt is worked off.

The Koerí, a very important agricultural caste of Hindustan, is closely allied to the Kurmí, with whom they drink, but do not eat, while the Kurmí attend their marriages, and partake of the feast.
