Since the first exploration at Pattanam the identification of Roman amphora sherds has demonstrated the far-reaching contacts of this site.1 Through excavation, first by Hill Palace Museum2 and since 2007 by the Kerala Council for Historical Research, the quantity of amphorae and other Roman pottery has grown significantly.3
