ABSTRACT

Thus, an obvious, but nonetheless critical, issue is to develop advanced understanding of the distinctions between constructive and destructive couple conflicts, from the perspectives of both the adults and the children. Clearly, significant progress has been made on this front both in the study of couple conflict, and in the examination of the effects of couple conflict on children. However, despite some efforts at integrating these directions (Booth & Amato, 1994; Cummings & Davies, 1994; Fincham, 1998), research focusing on couple conflict, and the implications of these conflicts for the children, respectively, have continued to develop as largely distinct and independent fields of study.
