ABSTRACT

Cummings, Goeke-Morey, and Papp’s review and critique of what we know about children’s responses to conflict (chap. 9) raises many interesting and important issues. We focus our comments primarily on two of these issues. The first is the need to have a systems perspective when considering the impact of conflict on children. The second is the importance of examining the impact of interparental conflict in different contexts. The context we consider is family structure, in particular whether the conflict takes place in a divorced or intact marriage.
