ABSTRACT

Healthy Start/NYC, a 5-year demonstration project initiated in 1991, seeks to reduce infant mortality by 50% in three inner-city health districts: Bedford, Central Harlem, and Mott Haven. The project is funded by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau. Project principals include the Medical and Health Research Association of New York City (MHRA, the grantee), the New York City Department of Health, the Bronx Perinatal Consortium, the Brooklyn Perinatal Network, and the Northern Manhattan Perinatal Partnership.
