Power and Relationships at Work

This chapter describes power and its related concepts (e.g., influence, dependency, control, and authority) as they affect organizational functioning and interpersonal relationships within organizations. Various definitions and theories of power are discussed as well as the effects of power and influence strategies on gender and various power-related topics. We conclude by focusing on the implications of power imbalances between women and men and on women’s strategies to gain power in organizations.
