ABSTRACT
There has been an increasing development of organizations run by disabled people for disabled people in the United States and in the United Kingdom. This has grown out of a general dissatisfaction with the many powerful and influential organizations run by nondisabled people who act on behalf of the disabled. It has been just one effect of the dynamics of empowerment and the demands for rights, choices, and opportunities by people with disabilities.
