ABSTRACT

Many discussions of developmental relationships make reference to the heroic myths of ancient Greece. What people seem to remember is that when Odysseus left to fight the Trojan War, he entrusted the education of his son Telemachus to his wise and trusted counselor and friend, Mentor. What they seem to forget is that Mentor, according to Homer, was sometimes really the goddess Athena in disguise. Right from the start gender has been a complicating factor in developmental relationships.
