Effects of a Mass Media Campaign to Prevent AIDS Among Young People in Ghana

WithSusan McCombie, Robert C. Hornik, John K. Anarfi

Ghana is located in West Africa and has an estimated population of 18 million, with about 47% under age 15 and 31% living in urban areas. The former British colony attained independence in 1957 and has an economy dominated by agriculture; cocoa, coffee, rice, and cassava are the major crops. The first AIDS cases were reported in the late 1980s, but like many countries in West Africa, the incidence of HIV was relatively low in the early 1990s.
