Knowledge Transfer: For What Purpose?

As academics, we are supposed to be in the business of creating and transferring knowledge. Many of our constituents (e.g., business school deans, society at large) tend to believe that we spend too much time in creating and too little time in transferring. Basic researchers might argue, however, that it is inappropriate and even unethical to transfer knowledge before its time, that is, before it has been created in line with the usual requirements of normal science for validation and replication.
